Microbiology's multi facial nature and ubiquity

Microbiology is a great profession but has been undermined in third world countries like ours. Microbiology itself is the study of small life as it was derived from two greek words Microbios meaning small life and logos meaning study. Although microbiology deals mainly with the organisms that can only be seen with the aid of a microscope, it also deals with some macro organisms that are visible to the naked eye. Such organisms includes the protozoa, mushrooms, helminths, etc. Just as there are diverse micro – organisms that makes up the study of microbiology the course is also very diverse with several areas of study within it. Examples of such areas of studies includes Immunology, Bacteriology, Molecular Biology, Biotectnology, Industrial Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Soil Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Parasitology, Food Microbiology, etc. More on Microbiology next time……..
